Booked

As you probably know, I’ve written blog posts ad nauseam and published opinion columns in newspapers and online, as well as essays in magazines and literary journals.  I even appeared on the radio.

But I’ve never been published in a book.  Until now.

A Cup of Comfort for New Mothers is officially released on March 10, although if you pop over to Amazon (go ahead, pop) it seems to be available now.

This is some of what Amazon says about the book:

There’s a new baby in the house—and it’s not the only one crying. New moms cry happy tears, tired tears, and overwhelmed tears—and that’s when the wisdom, sensitivity, and empathy of women who’ve been there prove invaluable.

And if the wonders of the internet will never cease, if you look inside the book at the table of contents, you can see me listed as the author of the essay on page 111. That’s an easy number to remember isn’t it? And if that isn’t enough (it isn’t, is it?) if you search my name (well, part of my name, no ‘Sue’) you can even read a portion of the essay that was previously published at Washington Post dot com back in 2007 — it’s about becoming a new mom for the SECOND time.  Many of us have done that, haven’t we?

I had pretty much forgotten about this book until the emails started arriving — the jpeg, the publication dates, ideas for promoting the book etc.  And I must admit it was a nice surprise.  For someone who had the newspaper section she wrote for killed off — and who is waiting on a myriad of editors to respond (or not) regarding a variety of pitches and essays — this came at just the right time.  Although — is there ever a wrong time to be published?

Didn’t think so.

Very cool! I remember when they were solicting writers for this book and I thought, hey, I should send something, but I never did. That, I guess, is why you are published and I am not. :? )
