It’s officially summer
My daughter is there, sort of in the middle, in the blue. See her?
The season of schedules has ended, and while my daughter can sleep late, polish her nails, call friends and hopefully find some things to do before she heads to camp in mid-July — I’m pressed with the challenge to stay on track when there is no track at all. My son will participate in a summer school program (as a high school senior!) which has him gone from 8 to 1 — when he’ll come home (sometimes) and want lunch — and the laptop.
So that the next 10 weeks don’t go by without queries made or pages written, I have to come up with a new plan — and that’s harder than sticking to one.

Good luck, Momma. All three of my teens are gainfully employed, so that gives us a bit of summer structure. Yay.
Thanks for pointing out your daughter’s the one in the blue, otherwise, I never would have spotted her. Damn, they grow up fast, don’t they?
Yes, coming up with a plan IS harder than sticking to one. Tha’ts exactly what I’ll be doing with my summer though; coming up with a plan. Good luck with yours!
I work full time, so my structure doesn’t change, but it still throws me all off kilter when school is over. I don’t have to get my daughter up, pester her about 500 things/homework/dance class (over, too). Don’t have to stay on her to go to bed, because those who sleep till noon don’t really need to go to bed at a decent time…lol.
She’s leaving for a month to go to her dad’s out of town, so that’s when I get lost for a while. Don’t even have to make sure she eats. You’d think I’d get all productive during that time, but it never works that way. I get more lax. Even now, in the mornings, theoretically I could get to work earlier because I don’t have to wait on her and bring her to school. The reality of it is I hit the snooze button for 30 minutes more and get more sleep instead.
I kinda wish I had the summer off and could spend it at home with my daughter…but I don’t.
On the other hand, I’d probably go stir-crazy and miss my co-workers.
Angie,
My son has a job in addition to summer school so he’s set!
Debbie,
Funny, the years don’t go quickly around here at all — so while it’s not the norm — I like it that way.
Mindy,
You have a zillion things going on, I can imagine you are just trying not to let any detail slip through the cracks!
Sharla,
When my daughter goes to camp (for a few years it was for 2 weeks, now it’s a month) I always putter around — this year I’m determined to be productive. I still think in terms of before, during, and after school hours though!! Force of habit!
Melissa,
Being off would work — I can totally get into a summer of play. But having to work and not having those set hours really wreaks havoc!
THANKS LADIES!!!
Amy
Good luck! My husband is out of work now so he’s here ALL THE TIME and he’s driving me batty. Right now he’s doing lunges within my line of sight and I just practiced shooting daggers at him with my eyes (I’m not kidding). At least we each have our own computer, although he almost killed mine this morning.
Melanie,
Yeah, that’s sort of what worries me. Being distracted by the presence more than anything else — kids are more or less self-sufficient at almost-14 and 17. I’m just used to hours to work uninterrupted!
