Lessons from a dog

The youngest of my three dogs, Mitzi, follows me everywhere I go.  Kitchen, bedroom, living room, laundry room, even the bathroom unless I can scoot in and shut the door.  If I’m going from sitting to standing she gets up, lest she miss out on the opportunity to shadow me.  I’m incredibly fascinating, in case that fact has escaped you.

This morning with audible paw steps behind me, I walked down the hall toward my bedroom and quickly turned on my heels, remembering that the shirt I wanted was in the laundry room, and almost had a knee to nose collision with the pooch.

“Sorry Mitz,” I said. “Sometimes I just have to change direction without notice. It’s the way of the world.”

Whoa.

My late dog, Charlie, used to do the same thing. He was my shadow. Man, I miss that dog.

The awesome thing about dogs is that they don’t question or care, they just change direction and go with you.

I don’t think there’s anyone else in the world that will do that. And if they did, it would probably bug the crap out of you. ;)

Aww. My parents’ dog Mac used to do this to me, except he’d have his nose between my knees as I walked. I can’t tell you how many times I tripped over him, stepped on his toes, knocked him into a wall… I miss him. :)

Its amazing how quickly our paths change directions…whether its in the house, on the road, or in life. I would like to see a person’s path who didnt change. What would happen? How would they be?
