Mom meets Grill

This post has been simmering for a while now. It’s not about writing and it’s not about editing or parenting. I know, I know.

You guessed it. I’m a rebel with Weber.

It’s a discontinued Weber Silver gas grill so you barbecue purists may abhor me, but it’s what I like.  Just me and my lighter and my broken ignition button.  My new grates and flavor bars and my shiny spatula, tongs and scraper with extra long super sonic handles.

My goal this spring and summer is to keep my kitchen cool and clean by cooking as much as possible on the grill.

Tonight I made burgers for the kids and shrimp for me – easy breezy and no recipe needed.  I mixed green olives and onions into the burgers for my son, salted both sides of the patties and popped those puppies on the grill.  Daughter is plain Jane when it comes to food (although not when it comes to fashion) so her burger was just that, plain.  I use 95% fat free organic beef which has lower fat grams than ground turkey unless you buy the 99% fat free turkey, which I do, but white-ish burgers do not have the same appeal and brownish-pink ones.  Six minutes, approximately, on each side and done.  Voila!  For me, in an effort to not only eat less but waste less, I grabbed some leftover cold, cooked shrimp, opened the plastic bag and squeezed in a half of a lemon, a teaspoon of olive oil and I cracked some black pepper. Shut the bag and did the old-fashioned shake from Shake and Bake.  Onto the grill for all of five minutes, some steamed baby Brussels sprouts for the girl-child and me — and a salad for the man-child.  Some baked Doritos because I’m a sport and VOILA!

Mom met grill and mom won!

I’ve been grilling for about a week now (this season, I’ve been grilling for years).  Let’s see if I can keep the Mom meets Grill momentum and blog posts going.  Maybe next year I could use it as a road map for meals. Or like a menu even.

Or not.
