What do you pack?
I was away from home for part of the weekend — something I don’t get to do very often. In my overnight bag I packed one book and my book light, two pairs of shoes (in addition to the ones on my feet), three outfits just in case, four necklaces, five pairs of earrings, my cell phone, my laptop and chargers for each. I had my camera, all my make-up, deodorant, perfume, my brushes, hair products and my flat iron. I had credit cards and cash and both pairs of my glasses and their cases. But late Saturday night I realized I’d forgotten my tooth brush and toothpaste. (Luckily I was able to snag ‘em in the health club’s locker room.)
What’s your must-have when you go away, even if it’s just for one night?

Oh goodness. I always pack way too much when I’m gone for the weekend. I never know what I”ll be doing when I go home – going out with my brothers? Eating dinner at a nice place? Trudging around the farm and splashing in puddles?
More than one change of clothes is a requirement.
I also have to bring a book. Absolutely necessity.
only 3 pairs of shoes? I am impressed.
I always have to take too many extra and “what if” clothes…what if I spill?what if the weather changes drastically? what if the plans change? what if it just doesn’t look right? what if I lose 40 pounds overnight?
I must be prepared for any possibility.
I always forget something! If not for myself, then for one of my family members. I try hardest to remember my meds/vitamins and contacts/glasses – because those can’t be picked up during a quick run to the store.
We were gone over the weekend, too. I think I actually remembered everything this time!
I’ll be getting away on my own sometime in June, and I know I’ll be excited to pack for myself then.
Must haves? Jammies, toothbrush and toothpaste, and contact lens stuff.
Other than that, it depends a lot on where I’m going.
Must haves: camera, antihistamine, a good book, hairspray, and sneakers.
I can pack in a sandwich size ziploc baggie.
Not really but I am extremely low maintenance. I don’t pack much!
Readers and feather pillow if possible. The rest can be gotten at the drugstore.
That sounds about right. I especially love the five necklaces — I’m the same way. How am I supposed to know what kind of mood I’ll be in when it’s time to go out?
I plan for different moods. I try to think how I can mix and match to support a particular mood or outing. I always take reading with me. Usually the current book I’m reading and then another item that can be for a change for the time away.
Always, meds, glasses, different shoes, two apples and some almonds. Always some jewerly which I rarely use.
I try and try to pack less but it doesn’t always work. However, I don’t go for long hikes in deserted places so I’m always okay in the end.
Most important is the two or three different reading items for a flight. I love the expanded reading time.
I pack my attitude and optimism. Is anything else really necessary?
Inquiring minds are so curious: where do you get to go? Yeah!!
My packed list is identical to yours, minus the glasses and 5(!) pairs of earrings. Love it!
Your choices sound very similar to what mine would be – sans the glasses. I saw that you went downtown Chicago – hope you had a great time! I love that city.
A stretchy hairband. Because I never know how my hair will look with a hotel dryer.
I travel light. All my clothes are black, so no worries if anything matches. I bring different shawls and scarves and jewelry to change my outfits. I guess my must-have is my iPod. LOST without it. And a book.

We usually for for about a week to Wisconsin. I pack way too much. All the things you mentioned, plus all the DH’s stuff, plus a bunch of dog toys and treats and leashes and pillows for the car – takes 7 hours to get there and I entertain the dog in the backseat on the way.
I thought we’d take less when we got a cottage, but it turns out we take even more. And, I always forget something, either coming or going. This time I left a satchel with some of Rascal’s stuff at the cottage. Good thing we’re going back there next weekend.

I pack light. And after having a jewelery case roll out of my bag under the seat in front of me on a plane…to be forgotten when I disembarked..no jewelry!
I wear one pair of earrings the whole time I am gone (and one necklace) – it’s freeing in a way!
And, I never want to forget my glasses!
