What’s your troll?

Remember Mimi Bobeck from the Drew Carey Show? Not only was she Drew’s cosmetically challenged nemesis, she was the office nastypants complete with a smidge of OCD.
She lined her desk with trolls. She couldn’t do anything without them.
When I sit down and start writing, I don’t need a troll, but I do need a drink (ha, if only). Coffee in one of my favorite mugs in the morning; water or lemonade in what my daughter calls my “sippy cup” in the afternoon. I don’t sit at my desk without hydration — even if I don’t partake. I need that, the same way I need my glasses, my pens and paper even though beverages really have nothing to do with writing.
What’s on your desk right now? What do you need to get started with your writing, because without it, nothing is quite right?

I have an altar in my office . . . and USED to meditate at it. The was PDB (pre-Demon Baby). Now he would use the Buddha statue as a football. So now all my Buddhas are lined up across the top of my desk’s shelf, and I light candles and say a prayer to start the day on a positive note. Just BEING at my desk with all that positive stuff around seems to do it for me.
No trolls. Just Buddhas.

Used to collect those little ogres when I was a kid! My talisman now is a never-ending cuppa coffee. Gotta have it.
Books. I have to have my little pile of “friends.” I rarely crack one open because I’m busy writing, but just having them beside me inspires me.
And sometimes coffee, too.
“Things happen for a reason … just believe.” That’s what’s printed on a ceramic sanddollar my daughters gave me. It’s always near my computer.
A little wine never hurt…;)
Always a beverage…coffee, water, perhaps a little vino. Lots of books. Photos of my family. A funny photo of Will Ferrell. And a quote: Do what you love and the money will follow.
A picture of my grandchildren on one side and a picture of my whole family on the other side and coffee…
